Irwan Sukendra (b. 1966, Lampung, Indonesia)

Irwan Sukendra is a renowned realist painter and sketch artist celebrated for his spontaneous on-the-spot sketches and live paintings. Inspired by the unpredictability of quick sketching, he captures the essence of Indonesia’s cultural performances, nature, and people with expressive minimalism and precise detail. Deeply influenced by Javanese dance and wayang aesthetics, Irwan’s works convey both emotion and narrative depth. Active since 1987, he has exhibited widely across Indonesia, Singapore, and Malaysia, earning numerous awards.
