PORTSEA HOLE and POPE’S EYE DOUBLE DIVE TRIP
Come join our amazing Dive Professionals on our Adreno Social Dive Day and enjoy some amazing Dives and socialize with other divers!!
Portsea Hole is a remnant section of the drowned valley of the Yarra River, descending sharply from the 12 metres depth of the surrounding seabed to 32 metres, exposing changes in the strata of the limestone sides with depth. It is characterized by diverse and abundant fish assemblages as well as a rich benthic community of marine invertebrates, encrusting algae, sponges and soft corals.
Portsea Hole in Port Phillip is about 500 metres from the Portsea Pier. To the north, there is a vertical wall approximately 75 metres long. The wall has small overhangs which are home to plenty of marine life, including the beautiful Blue Devil fish. Portsea Hole is a very popular boat dive site for all recreational scuba divers.
Pope's Eye is a man-made basalt rock annulus. It is the foundation of what was to be an Island Fort built in the 1880s. This horseshoe-shaped artificial reef is now a Marine Reserve and the home of many species of fish, invertebrates and algae, including large fronds of macro cysts kelp. The inside of Pope's Eye provides a safe anchorage in 2 meters of water while outside, the rock wall extends to a depth of 12 meters. While the best time to dive Pope's Eye is at the start of the ebb tide, it provides almost all weather, all current diving.
After we have been to Pope's Eye we stop off at the chinamans hat to have a snorkel with the beautiful and fun Australian fur seals.
