Commodities that are exported from Africa are predominantly processed, branded and packaged abroad, minimizing economic benefit in the country of origin, leading to inequalities in trade and prosperity.
WHAT MATTERS TO US
As a social enterprise, Kazi Yetu reinvests a majority of profits into our main focus on job creation and women’s economic empowerment.
From sourcing…
We single source tea grades, both orthodox and crush-tear-curl (CTC), directly from farms in Tanzania. Our whole leaf black and green teas currently come from an organic tea plantation on the foothills of Mt. Kilimanjaro, as well as the Usambara Mountains in the lush green areas of northern Tanzania. The large tea farm employs over 150 farmers that pluck two leaves and a bud, and maintain the farm through the different seasons. These farmers work on the tea plantation as a daily source of income, which is key for their families’ quality of life. Most of them are smallholder farmers that grow subsistence food crops on their own land for their families’ consumption. Some also own small tea farms, which is planned to be included in an out-grower scheme. The tea plantation is Eco Cert organic certified, as well as Fair Trade certified. Our unique tea flavours are directly sourced from organic producers and processors across the country.
